Airports Invited to TALPA Industry Day at US DOT Headquarters on June 9

The FAA will be holding an “Industry Day” on Thursday June 9, 2016, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT at the Department of Transportation’s West Atrium Theater at 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20590. At the event the FAA will discuss the planned rollout the Takeoff and Landing Performance Assessment (TALPA) program. The Industry Day follows FAA issuance of draft Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5200-30D, Airport Field Condition Assessments and Winter Operations Safety. Airports operators are invited to participate in this event.

To participate, please send your representative’s name to 9-avs-afs-TALPA@faa.gov as soon as possible. A government-issued ID will be required for admission.

Unfortunately, due to limited space, the FAA is limiting attendance to one representative from each organization sending attendees.

ACI-NA Operations & Technical Affairs Committee will conduct a conference call on Monday, June 6 from 2:00-3:00pm (invite to be sent in a separate email) to provide a TALPA update and to collect comments from those members that are unable to attend the Industry Day briefings.

Additionally, for those airports unable to attend Industry Day, the FAA is planning to conduct one or more recorded webinars by early summer to answer any questions related to the associated changes pertaining to the draft AC.  ACI-NA will provide details as the FAA makes them available.

As noted in our submitted comments to the FAA regarding the draft AC, ACI-NA continues to have significant concerns related to the October 1 implementation date and are awaiting FAA’s response.  We continue to advocate that implementation of the AC be postponed to the 2017-2018 winter season as it will enable careful harmonization of multiple FAA advisory circulars, orders, and other guidance documents and allow adequate training and familiarization to safely manage the substantive changes in runway condition reporting methodologies proposed in the draft AC.
