Canada Lifts Residency Rule for Canadian NEXUS Applicants

Effective June 30, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) lifted the three-year residency requirement for Canadian citizens so that those residing abroad or recently returned to Canada can apply for NEXUS.  (The US changed this requirement in 2009).

CBP and CBSA have conducted three NEXUS enrollment drives during May and June which enrolled more than 1,000 new members.  Additional drives will be considered based on the volume of applications.

NEXUS allows US and Canadian members to expedite their travel at designated air, land and sea ports of entry.

These efforts flow from the Canada/US Beyond the Border Action Plan released in December 2011.
