Customer Service Programs

MarketPlace Development, the developer and manager of the Food & Shops concessions program at LaGuardia’s Terminal B, embarked on a $4.7M redevelopment project to refresh and revitalize the concessions program while the Port Authority of NY & NJ plans for a new state-of-the art terminal in the near future. During this redevelopment phase, two stores awaiting construction were converted into temporary ChargeBars, since this service has been often requested by passengers. These ChargeBars were designed to have a lounge feel and offer passenger a quite oasis to charge, refresh and conduct business.

Entry Statement

1. Project Goals: 

The goal of the ChargeBars was to covert stores awaiting construction into a necessary and rquested service for passengers with a necessary service.

2. Production: 

MarketPlace Development worked with a graphic designer to create the overall creative artwork. Leather chairs and charging stations were installed to create a lounge feel. A ChargeBar receptionist was on site to help customers if needed, from 10am-7pm.

3. Evaluation: 

The ChargeBar concept was a roaring success. Numerous positive e-mails were received from customers who used the lounge. The concept was so successful that MarketPlace Development is integrating this concept into the refurbishment of the food court.

4. Budget: 

The budget for the site prep and design work was $3,500. Monthly costs for the current ChargeBar is approximately $4,400, including furniture rental and staffing.
