In June, the ACI-NA Commissioners Committee selected two individuals as recipients of the ACI-NA Commissioners Committee Scholarship Program.  This year’s beneficiaries include Jason Alvarez, who is pursuing of Masters of Aeronautical Science degree in Aviation Management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University; and Richard Rammuno, who is pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in Aviation Management from Metropolitan State University-Denver.  Congratulations to these outstanding individuals!

Established in1993, the Commissioners Scholarship Program recognizes students with high academic achievement who are working toward a career in airport management or airport operations. The scholarship program recognizes the importance of the highly specialized education necessary to fill the extremely complex and multi-disciplined role of being a professional airport administrator or airport operator.

Contributions to the scholarship program are tax deductible and your support is greatly appreciated.

Are you a newly appointed airport Board member or simply looking to gain a broader understanding of your role as a Board or Commissioner member?   Designed by members of the ACI-NA Commissioners Committee, the Airport Commissioners Orientation Program assists Commissioners to better understand key elements of the airport business and how airports form part of the broader air transportation system.  The program explores the regulatory framework in which U.S. airports operate and outlines the governance roles and responsibilities of airport Commissioners.  Airport ownership models are explained and the program provides an overview of the financial management of an airport. The program also includes key areas of airport operations and the importance of safety and security as airport operational imperatives.

To learn more about the program, including how to register, please visit the ACI Online Learning Center.

In an ongoing effort to seek greater coordination and collaboration between ACI-NA and the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the Executive Committees of both respective organizations recently announced their intention to jointly sponsor the 2015 Airport Board and Commissioners Conference scheduled for April 12-14 at the Hotel Monteleone located in New Orleans’ historic French Quarter.  Mark your calendar now to attend this informative and industry-wide attended conference.  The agenda will be forthcoming in early winter.

In conjunction with the ACI-NA/AAAE Spring Legislative Conference, the ACI-NA Commissioners Committee will hold its annual Commissioners Congressional Reception on the evening of March 4, 2015 in Washington, DC.  The reception honors a Member of Congress or an Administration official who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and contribution to the aviation industry. More details to come later this winter.

The Commissioners Committee has a dedicate webpage to highlight the latest Committee related news and issues. The webpage also lists the current members of the Executive Committee, as well as the Committee’s participation plan

In addition to the Commissioners Committee, did you know ACI-NA has sixteen additional Committees?  The ACI-NA committees ensure that airport and associate members have the latest information on regulatory and industry issues. These groups help develop policy, legislation and regulatory comments for the benefit of the airport industry. Committee members also discuss issues of common interest and plan conference programs so the content is relevant to what’s happening at North American airports.

Effective September, ACI-NA’s Nathan Pick will replace Paul Eubanks as staff liaison to the Commissioner Committee.  As ACI-NA’s Director of Advocacy, Nathan works with ACI-NA member airports and their surrounding communities to advocate the industry’s role in economic development.  He also manages ACI-NA’s relationships with allied non-aviation organizations.

Prior to ACI-NA, Pick was the executive assistant to George Allen (R-Va.) in his 2012 U.S. Senate bid.  He also served as State Affairs Manager at Americans for Tax Reform; Campaign Manager for Va. State Sen. Steve Martin (R); and as a regional political director for the Republican Party of Virginia.

Pick is a graduate of Liberty University, with a degree in government.
