FAA Delays Tower Closure Decisions Until March 22

David Grizzle, Chief Operating Officer of the FAA Air Traffic Organization (ATO) announced earlier today that the FAA will be delaying its announcement of contract tower closures until March 22. As noted in our prior communications, 173 contract towers are threatened with closure on April 7 due to sequestration-related budget cuts.

In a message sent to affected airports, Grizzle noted that the FAA has received a large volume of information regarding how individual towers serve the national interest and is delaying its closure decisions in order to fully review these submittals.

ACI-NA will provide additional information as it becomes available. Please contact Chris Oswald if you have any questions.
