FAA Publishes Advisory Circular for Safety Management Systems for Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently published a revised version of Draft Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5200-37A, Safety Management Systems for Airports.  The draft AC presents the concepts of Safety Management System and provides detailed guidance about developing and implementing SMS on an airport. The draft AC compliments the Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Safety Management System for Certificated Airports which was published earlier this week.

ACI-NA is encouraging members to review the draft AC and submit all comments via the FAA matrix comment document.  Comments should be submitted to FAA’s Keri Lyons electronically no later than September 12, 2016.

As a reminder, ACI-NA will conduct a webinar next Wednesday, July 20 from 2:00-2:30pm Eastern Daylight Time.  Advance registration is required. The agenda will include a brief history and overview of SMS and the SMS SNPRM, the general approach we are planning to take over the next 60 days, as well the formation of our subject matter expertise SMS Working Group which will assist ACI-NA staff in reviewing the SNPRM and drafting our final comments.
