FAA Publishes Airport SMS SNPRM

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) published the Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM) Safety Management System for Certificated Airports, as well as a brief fact sheet pertaining to the SNPRM.  The supplemental rule is expected to be officially published in the Federal Register on Thursday, July 14 and will contain a 60 day comment period expected to conclude on September 12, 2016.

Additionally, ACI-NA has learned that detailed guidance about developing and implementing airport SMS will be released later this week through an updated version of Advisory Circular 150/5200-37A, Safety Management Systems for Airports.

ACI-NA staff has begun a preliminary review of the SMS SNPRM and subsequently will conduct a webinar for ACI-NA members next Wednesday, July 20 from 2:00-2:30pm Eastern Daylight Time.  Advance registration is required. The agenda will include a brief history and overview of SMS and the SMS SNPRM, the general approach we are planning to take over the next 60 days, as well the formation of our subject matter expertise SMS Working Group which will assist  ACI-NA staff in reviewing the SNPRM and drafting our final comments.

Over the next 60 days, ACI-NA will closely coordinate with our industry colleagues at AAAE, NASAO and ACC and are encouraging ACI-NA members to submit their own comments to the SNPRM docket (and kindly request you provide ACI-NA staff with an advance copy).
