Hamilton Honored with Bushelman Award

Tara Hamilton, the public relations manager at Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, was honored today with the 2011 Ted Bushelman Legacy Award for Creativity and Excellence during the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Conference now underway in Cleveland.

In selecting Hamilton, the Marketing and Communications Steering Group noted Hamilton’s long involvement in the committee and in ACI-NA activities. In addition, it was also noted that she developed a partnership with the National Transportation Safety Board to provide an annual training crisis communications conference for the industry. Due to the success of the program, Hamilton and NTSB has since developed a “road show” version for media professionals who cannot travel to Washington. She gained first-hand knowledge in a 1991 fatal crash at Dulles and during the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks that affected both Washington airports.

She was also cited assisting the national media by providing Regan National Airport as a backdrop to almost every aviation story.

Hamilton is the third recipient of the award named in tribute to Ted Bushelman, who managed communications at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The first award was given to Bushelman in 2008. Bushelman, who died suddenly in March, was one of the founders of the committee and the conference.
